Broadband Update

March 15, 2004

Verizon DSL is available!

BCN, Charlemont's former broadband service supplier, is currently reselling the Verizon service for approximately $50.00/month which includes local customer support. More information about the service is available at www.bcn.net/dsl.php. In addition, Charlemont Software received a mailing on March 17th from Verizon directly indicating the availability of their DSL service at a $39.99/month sale price for a limited time. Some set up charges will also apply. Information about this service is available at www.verizon.com/bizdsl100 and by phone at 1 888 519-6DSL.

DSL service is available for people in the 339 and 337 exchanges whose phone lines are of sufficient quality and run less than three miles from the Charlemont telephone central office located on South Street. East Charlemont residents (625 exchanges) do not have access as the Shelburne Falls Central Office has not yet been scheduled for an upgrade. The businesses that banded together to aggregate demand in Charlemont through BCN have moved our town up the Verizon list for this service upgrade.

Thank you again to all those who have made this service possible. Additional customers will serve to make the service more cost effective.
